Smile Sensation Station (photo station)

Are you looking for a unique idea for your wedding reception? Have you considered a photo booth? Instead, consider a photo station! You’ll be glad you did.

Family Affair Photography

Our photo station, known as the Smile Sensation Station is the better alternative to photo booths … here’s why:

  • Photo booths limit the number of people in a shot,
  • Large groups easily fit into our photo station – strike a pose with your friends!
  • Many times people aren’t interested in getting their photo taken, but most people can’t resist bringing out the inner child and playing dress up or action hero!
  • A devoted photographer who will ‘help’ instigate and encourage guests to let their hair down.
  • Entertaining! Gives your guests something to do before and between events. (not to mention the priceless photos you receive)
  • No limit on photos taken
  • Online ordering is available for guests or for an additional fee provides guests with an on-site souvenir print.
  • We provide an extensive selection of props – guitars, hats, boas, glasses, and MORE.
  • Add more fun with personalized messages for the bride & groom.

Family Affair Photography

Things photo station customers have done with their photos:

  • Set up the station at or near the entrance, and have photos taken with the guest as they arrive to the reception. We had one bridal couple do this as part of the receiving line, the bride later used the photos in her wedding scrapbook.
  • If you are having all your wedding portraits/formals done after your wedding ceremony a photo station is a great way for guests to remain entertained while the bridal party is having their portraits completed with their photographer. ** If you book Family Affair Photography for your event and our station, we provide dedicated photographers who man the station while we remain with you at the event.
  • Another couple had guests go to the station, sign a scrapbook page (instead of a sign-in book) and then had the photo attached to the page. Guests were able to give a personalized message in the photo and on the scrapbook page.
  • Lastly, put inexpensive 4x6 frames on the tables as wedding favors, with a message to go to the photo station and have a photo taken. We can provide guests with a photograph so they can take their photo in the frame. There is an additional cost to have the printer and photos made on site.

Please feel free to share your ideas of what to do with the photographs from our Smile Sensation Station in the comments below!

What to Wear for a Portrait Session

J 163 copy

Clothes, Colors & Shoes: When it comes to colors in general, try to dress everyone in a similar color, Try and avoid large areas of light pastels, bold stripes, bold patterns, or anything that is too distracting, a subtle pattern is fine. Also avoid short sleeves; upper arms always tend to photograph wider than they are in real life.  Keep in mind that white clothing may add the look of extra weight; dark colors tend to be slenderizing White clothing also acts as a reflector and if you are pale it will only enhance how pale you are.

Keep jewelry simple, conservative is always a safe choice.

Coordinating Clothes: The night before your portrait try laying out all the clothes the family will wear on the bed, ask yourself if the clothes match or if there is something that just doesn't belong or is too distracting. For holidays red and white make nice combinations other times shades of blue or such work well. Choose a color theme (solid colors are best) and clothing style that are representative of your family.

Hands: Ladies hands are often included in portraits, they add femininity and elegance. Having your nails done is important.
Makeup: Remember to bring along some makeup (lipstick and powder) for touch ups. Oil free make up is best as the oil based make up tends to make it look like you are perspiring. Glitter tends to have the same effect as the oil based make-up

Contact Lens: Some people who wear contact lens tend to blink on a high percentage of photos, it might be a good idea for contact lens wearer to wear glasses and take them off for the portraits.

Props: Household pets and special props such as musical instruments, etc., are always welcome.

Last but not least: remember to get a good night sleep for that fresh look

Philosophy and Approach

For every couple and their families the wedding day is special.  It's preceded by months of preparations, selecting the best suppliers with attention to every detail.

A photographer is a person who's gift is to show the uniqueness, the emotions; to capture the beauty and make the wonderful day memorable...  Photography is our passion.  We capture emotions, time and personalities. Every photo shoot is different just like every individual is unique. It reveals the beauty hidden in every one of us.

Your photographs are the visual diary of your life.  When we photograph your wedding, we are preserving memories for you and future generations.

To photograph a wedding is to be a silent unobtrusive witness. Capturing the essence of the day, a storyteller with a camera. We want our photographs to be a reflection of your joy, togetherness and love.

We feel blessed to be part of your family and friends on your special day.

About Your Photographer ~ Monica

blog copy

Years ago, I looked at wedding photographers as "crazy'.   Then it happened.  My niece needed a photographer for her wedding and asked, well no, she bribed me into photographing her wedding.

On her wedding day I ran around photographing everything, sitting down briefly to enjoy the meal my sister in law lovingly created and a bite of cake.  Then it was back to running around with the camera in hand.

When I got home, all I could think of is "WHEN do I get to do THAT again!!"  Yes, I realized, I was just crazy enough to LOVE wedding photography. There is an adrenal rush involved when photographing a wedding.  I simply can't get enough!

I shared the photos with my co-workers, asking for their opinions.  That lead me to photographer a coworkers wedding, her sister and  sister-in-laws wedding.  Bring it on!  I wanted more.  The sheer joy, the energy of the day was so motivating and uplifting.

My husband, Sonny joined me on the second wedding with a film camera and we worked well together.  We could anticipate each others actions and were able to cover twice as much for the couple.  He's been beside me ever since photographing weddings.

With each wedding we photograph, we are reminded of our own love for each other, the respect involved and our love for photographing weddings.

What an incredible opportunity we've been given, to photograph and preserve the memories of one your most important events in life!  Feel free to visit me at my personal blog - it's filled with photographs that I take just for the pure joy of playing with my camera.

About Your Photographer ~ Sonny

blog copy

While always having an interest in photography, it was something I wasn’t able to enjoy as much as I’d have liked because of the cost was too prohibitive to indulge in being creative. To learn you have to be able to take many photographs. With digital photography, it was no longer an issue. I could try creative ideas and learn from those attempts.

So now I find myself not only being a photographer but also head of our research and development department. When my wife says “I want to learn how to do this new technique, go figure it out and show me how when you do.” Being a good husband, I try to do just that.

Between my technical left brain and my wife’s creative right brain we manage to come up with a whole brain between the two of us!
While I photograph 99% of the weddings with my wife Monica, I also maintain a full time job outside the home and business.

** a note from Monica.

Yes, I do ask him to figure new things out for me!  I call him 'my absent minded professor' and sometimes he's my MacGyver.  He's a handy man to have around. =)
